The Caribbean has a youthful population, with 60% of its citizenry under the age of 30 years. Those in the 15-29 age range comprise almost 20% of this. Yet young people’s sexual and reproductive health needs are often unfulfilled. It is estimated that around 20% of women in the Caribbean have had at least one child by the age of 19 with a considerable percentage of adolescent girls even giving birth before the age of 15.
We believe young people have the right to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health. And we work closely with our member associations across the Caribbean to ensure young people can access the high-quality, non-judgmental, confidential services they need to live healthy, self-determined lives. We also build the leadership of young people to advocate for their rights at local, national, regional and international levels.
