As part of the Millennium Development Goals, governments worldwide agreed to ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health information and services. They recognized that this is a key aspect of ending poverty, increasing gender equality, and building robust economies. However, not all governments have allocated sufficient resources to uphold their promises.
As part of our advocacy strategy, we demand budget transparency and greater governmental accountability. We believe citizens have the right to know how their government is spending its money. That’s why we’ve undertaken initiatives to ensure that governments fulfill their commitments to achieve universal access to sexual and reproductive health and gender equality.
We seek to strengthen the capacity of civil society to hold governments accountable to their commitments to gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and rights. As part of such efforts, we seek to establish strong coalitions where none previously existed and to fortify the advocacy skills and strategies of our member associations to increase budget transparency.
