The Affiliate in Bermuda continues its efforts to address the needs of the adolescent segment of the population in Bermuda.
The Affiliate operates a Teen Haven 24 hour residential program, which offers transitional housing, counselling, as well as parenting and life skills training to teen mothers and young women, aged 16-24 years, and their children. The goal of the program is to prepare the residents for effective parenting and successful independent living. Counselling is usually provided by social workers to at-risks girls and young women aged 11-25 years old. Group counselling is also offered to pregnant teens, teen parents and at-risk girls. Additionally, Teen Services provides prevention-focused outreach services to empower young individuals to make healthy life choices.
A highlight for the Affiliate is its Precious Gems program which has its mission stated as: “To inspire and empower young girls to recognize their true value, so that the greatness within can shine”. The Precious Gems program summer camps serve as a female empowerment program that helps young girls between the ages of 11 to 14 strive towards a healthy approach to living their lives. The program also seeks to help young girls discover and understand their inner value, build self-confidence and improve self-esteem, as well as develop leadership skills.
